Effects Workshop by Vicky Harrison

Every singer uses effects when singing to express certain feelings.

We all hear “Highway to Hell” in our heads, with lead singer Brian Johnson’s raspy sound, Michael Jackson’s „Hi hi hi“, Mariah Carey’s ornamentation and singing in the whistle register up to C7, Tom Waits grunting and growling on „Waltzing Mathilda“, James Brown’s screams on „Sexmachine“ or Marilyn Monroe’s sexy breaths on „Happy Birthday Mr. President.“

Authorized Complete Vocal Technique Coach Vicky Harrison is an excellent teacher who will be joining us from Cambridge/England.
She is a master of the so-called „rough effects“ such as distortion, grunt, growl and rattle, which should be the focus of this workshop.
If required, she can also teach the softer effects such as vibrato, creak, creaking, ornamentation and singing with an airy voice or in the whistle register (Mariah Carey!).

The sequence:
10:00 am to 1:00 pm Round of introductions and lecture on the effects.
1:00 pm to 2:30 pm Lunch break
2:30 pm to 6:00 pm Actively trying out the effects on phrases or songs.
